The Antarctica is the region around the Earth's South Pole. The name of Antarctica comes from Greeks and it means 'opposite to Arctica'. It's the biggest desert in the world. 98 % of Antarctica is covered by ice. It's the coldest continent. Minimum temperatures are between -50 °C and -90 °C in winter, and the maximum are between 5 °C and 15 °C in summer. There live many penguins, seals, whales und dolphins. Antarctica has no permanent residents. There live only animals or scientists who work in special stations, for example Wostok. In winter at these stations live 1000 people can live but in summer it is about 4000. Anterctica is a very beautiful but cold place.
